FAQ

How much do the papers cost?

Teachers and educational institutions receive the weekday edition of the Bangor Daily for just $.20 a copy. The weekend edition of the Bangor Daily costs just $.38 a copy. Minimum deliveries of 5 newspapers per classroom are required.

How do I order newspapers for my classroom?

Download and submit the '08-'09 NIE Order Form here.

How are the newspapers delivered?

Newspapers are delivered in bundles to the front entrance or another mutually agreed-upon location at your school. Each bundle is labeled with the name of the teacher or principal requesting papers. Bangor Dailys arrive before 8 a.m. We strongly encourage you to inform your custodial staff that you will be receiving newspapers - you can ask them to take newspapers to an indoor pick-up location.

What about holidays?

Unless otherwise specified by the teacher, we do not deliver newspapers on major holidays or during school vacations. We also get each school district's yearly calendar as soon as it becomes available, and refer to these calendars if we have questions about particular dates (for example, the day before Thanksgiving, Good Friday, etc...) Please inform us if your school is in session or has a break that is not consistent with the general calendar for the scholastic year (This is particularly important if you teach at a private school or college.).

Do I have to take newspapers every day?

No. You can select any delivery dates of your choice.

What do I do if I don't get my papers?

If you do not receive your newspapers, call us immediately! After 8 a.m. call 207-990-8076 or 207-990-8040. We will arrange to have papers delivered to your school as soon as we hear from you. If we are unable to deliver replacement newspapers we will issue a credit to your account. Please remember to check with your custodial staff before phoning us! They may have picked up your newspapers already.

I've never used the newspaper to teach my students. How do I get more information about using the newspaper in class?

Contact NIE for information about using the newspaper. We can answer your questions over the phone, and can also arrange for a personal presentation at your school.

How do I get a sponsor?

NIE staff people work closely with area businesses and subscribers to secure sponsorships for schools that require financial support. If you need money for classroom newspapers, contact NIE. We will use existing sponsorship funds to distribute newspapers to your classroom, or seek out new support for you.

What is the minimum NIE sponsorship level?

There is no minimum sponsorship level for NIE contributions. We gladly accept contributions of any amount, and use this funding to underwrite the distribution of newspapers to teachers who need financial assistance. For more information on the benefits of sponsoring classroom newspapers, visit our sponsor page.
