The purpose of the NIE Sponsorship Program is to form a partnership between the business and education communities to help develop the skilled readers, writers, communicators and critical thinkers who will be our future leaders.
Why Support NIE?
The demand from teachers for NIE classroom newspapers is growing every year while public funding for educational resources within schools has become strained. The participation and contributions from concerned businesses and individuals throughout our 8-county circulation area have put newspapers on the desks of every classroom that has asked for it.
- It is a good investment in the future. Today’s students become tomorrow’s employees and community leaders.
- It is a literacy program at the local level.
- It will help expose students to real-life situations that relate to their subjects.
- The sponsor may interact with its classroom in any way that it is mutually agreeable.
How it Works!
You can help bring newspapers to our local school children, whether you're an interested parent sponsoring a single classroom or a generous business supporting thousands of students.
The Bangor Daily News offers newspapers at and educational discount to schools and provides free, academically sound materials, programs and services to the teachers in our eight-county readership area. Sponsorships are applied to schools whose budgets do now allow for the cost of the discounted papers.
Businesses and individuals donating $50 or more may direct their sponsorship participation to a specific school or city. By acting locally, you can help improve literacy & education where it affects you the most!

We thank all NIE sponsors by name in a three-quarter page ad that appears in the Bangor Daily News several times during the school year. We also thank sponsors in our newsletter for NIE teachers which provides up-to-date information about NIE's goals and activities, along with helpful ideas and exercises for educators as well as mention on the NIE website.
